The current head coach of the New Orleans Hornets, and a three-time NBA Champion Laker, Byron Scott also had two trips to the NBA Finals as head coach of the New Jersey Nets. His road from shooting baskets in a gang-infested public park at night, to becoming a top NBA Champion player and coach is an incredible true story. As a young boy growing up in Inglewood, California, Byron Scott had dreams of basketball stardom. He cultivated his dream and escaped from the harsh reality of a world full of drugs, gangs and guns by practicing every day on basketball courts across the street from the Forum, once home to the Los Angeles Lakers. After graduating and finishing his basketball career at Arizona State, Scotts dream of playing professional basketball became a reality, when he was selected fourth overall in the 1983 NBA Draft by the San Diego Clippers, and later traded to his hometown Los Angeles Lakers. Over the next decade, Scott was a key member of the Lakers Showtime Era that helped them win NBA Championships in 1985, 1987 and 1988. He played with Hall of Fame teammates Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy and was guided by the hand of legendary coach Pat Riley. In 1993, Scott signed as a free agent with the Indiana Pacers and spent two years there under Coach Larry Brown. Coach Scott is also active in a variety of nonprofit organizations and has been honored by three American Presidents. |
